Day 3 Targets for the Titans

Through 2 days of the NFL Draft, it's clear the Titans have put a premium on high character football players and they have also shown they are willing to gamble on upside and development. Day 3 of the NFL Draft is where you can find hidden gems, guys who have slipped due to character concerns or a really good way to improve depth on the roster. My philosophy is you take the best player available no matter the position on Day 3. The odds of hitting on Day 3 picks get significantly lower the further you go in the draft, so you take the best player there to have a chance to contribute and compete. Some teams may gamble on upside later on go with developmental prospects with specific traits. With 6 picks on Day 3 and a potential Will Levis trade looming, I'm going to point out some Day 3 picks that I like and why!

  1. RB Cam Skattebo (Arizona St)

    • Borgonzi said he wants "all ball, all day." Skattebo certainly seems like he fits that mold. He had a coming out party this year, getting Heisman votes for an outstanding season. One thing about him is he showed up in big moments including the postseason against the best competition. The Titans have a need for a power back and Cam fits that mold.

  2. EDGE Jack Sawyer (Ohio St)

    • A team captain for the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes, it's surprising to me that he is still on the board. The Titans picked up 1 EDGE rusher already but it does not mean they can't double dip on one of the biggest needs coming into the draft. Dremont Jones is on a 1 year contract and Arden Key is in a contract year, so it's a need not only for this year but next year. He certainly fits the high character players that the Titans have seemed to target. He matched that with production, totaling 15.5 sacks, 5 FF and 19 TFL over the last 2 seasons. He comes from a winning program and showed up in the biggest moments.

  3. CB Quincy Riley (Louisville)

    • A teammate of rookie success Jarvis Brownlee, he's not all to different from him in terms of playstyle. He is a gritty corner that likes to be in your face and plays with a competitive edge. I'm sure you have noticed a trend but he also has good college production. He has 3 years of some level All Conference performances. He has a nose for the ball with 8 INT's over the last 3 seasons (only 2 as a starter) and he has 24 PBU over the last 2 seasons.

  4. S Billy Bowman (Oklahoma)

    • This is one of my favorite players in the draft. Bowman is just a football player. He is a bit undersized and not the most athletic but he has elite instincts and feel for the game. We already took a safety but Amani Hooker is in a contract year and we have nothing behind him and our new rookie Kevin Winston. Bowman was a 4 year starter for Oklahoma and 3x All Conference performer. He has 11 INTs with 3 returned for TDs in 2023 (Led the FBS). I love a safety that has a nose for the football.

  5. RB DJ Giddens (Kansas St)

    • I think I'm higher than most on Giddens. He's a one cut slasher at RB that picks up chunk gains with 4.4 speed. He has juice in the pass game as well. He had a 6.5 YPC average last year and was another All Conference performer.

  6. WR Jalen Royals (Utah St)

    • The Titans still have a big need at WR that I think they address on Day 3. This WR class just wasn't as good as the classes the past few seasons but I think Royals can provide some juice. He has ideal size and speed for an outside WR. He brings explosive YAC ability to the outside and would have had back to back 1000 yard seasons if not due to injury last season.

  7. OG Miles Frazier (LSU)

    • A 4 year starter in college, he was never an All Conference performer but he was a Freshman All American at FIU before transferring to LSU and becoming a finalist for the Joe Moore Top OL award. He has ideal size and frame, and he has played all over the OL. Position versatility on the OL is a good way to stay in the league for a long time.

  8. EDGE Kyle Kennard (South Carolina)

    • Talk about production, Kyle Kennard had a season to remember this past season with South Carolina. He won the Nagurski Award for the nations top defensive player, he won SEC DPOY in the best conference and was a finalist for the Lombardi Award given to the top OL/DL in the nation. An outstanding season with 11.5 sacks, 15.5 TFL and 3 FF.

  9. RB Brashard Smith (SMU)

    • A converted WR, Brashard Smith had a great season with SMU. At worst, he is going to be a good 3rd down back in the league but I think he can be more than that. I think he is a Tyjae Spears type player but a more natural and better receiver. He also is more explosive with legit 4.3 speed. I would love for the Titans to double dip at the RB position on Day 3 with all the talent available. He was an AP 3rd team All American with close to 2000 All Purpose yards, 14 Rushing TDs and 4 Receiving TDs and he gives you another returner on your roster.

  10. LB Jack Kiser (Notre Dame)

    • Another high character guy that comes from a winning organization, Kiser was a 4 year starter and team captain that is tackling machine. He brings durability and positional intelligence. He knows how to play the position and we've seen many guys who have overcome physical limitations become good NFL LB's, as the LB position is all about reading and reacting. He can come in and contribute immediately.

    Honorable Mention:

    • RB - Damien Martinez, Trevor Etienne, Jaydon Blue, Ollie Gordon

    • WR - Isaiah Bond, Elic Ayomanor, Xavier Restrepo, Donte Thornton, Jamaal Pritchett

    • TE - Orondre Gadsen

    • OL - Cameron Williams, Brandon Crenshaw, Marcus Mbow, Willie Lampkin

    • DL- JJ Pegues, Aeneas Peebles, Bradyn Swinson, Tyler Baron

    • LB - Jay Higgins. Kobe King, Danny Stutsman

    • CB - Denzel Burke, Cobee Bryant, Zah Frazier, Jabbarr Muhammad

    • S - Hunter Wohler, Sebastian Castro
