Maximizing Opportunities How 2025 Draft Night Trade Can Shape Titans Future

As Day 1 of the NFL Draft wound down, there was a trade that took place between the Falcons and the Rams. The Falcons had just drafted Jalon Walker at pick 15 and saw another piece, in EDGE James Pearce Jr, that they thought could be a missing piece to their defense. While I was really high on James Pearce (and I still am), I'm not here to debate whether the trade was good or bad. I'm here to tell you how this trade could significantly impact the future of the Tennessee Titans by both teams.

  • How the Rams side affects the Titans

    • The Rams are one of the best teams in the league, not only because they have a great coach in Sean McVay but they have a great GM in Les Snead. The Rams, particularly Snead, have been aggressive in trading, especially in the draft and when it comes to QB play.

In 2012, Snead was named GM of the Rams and a month later, he made his first trade when he traded his 2012 1st Round (#2 overall) for 2 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick, then would follow that to make another trade down to add additional capital. A few short years later, he would use a lot of that ammo to move up with our own Tennessee Titans in the Jared Goff trade.

Later on, in 2021, he would trade Goff and multiple 1st round picks to for Matthew Stafford, which lead them to a Superbowl win. Now with a potential top 10 pick and an aging Matthew Stafford, Snead could have a window to move up and grab his potential QB of the future again. Not only that, Borgonzi and Snead have already made a deal in Borgonzi's first year at the helm with the Roger McCreary trade. With Snead's aggressive history and Borgonzi's desire for additional draft compensation, this could make a ton of sense for both sides.

    • Now lets dive into the Falcons side, who may have thought this trade was going to push them over the edge. Now, at 3-7, with their QB Michael Penix out for the rest of the season with yet another knee injury, an extensive injury history dating back his Indiana University days, an older, very expensive Kirk Cousins who had his job taken and no 2026 1st round pick, the Falcons find themselves at odds. This leaves them with a muddy QB situation going into 2026 and no real capital to move up and get a QB if they wanted.

That leads me to Terry Fontenot, who also shown the willingness to be aggressive and make trades, as shown in the deal made just last year and a handful of trades for players. One route he could decide to take is trading for Will Levis to add some competition in the room and it would likely come at a pretty discounted price, as seen in the Brownlee and McCreary trades with guys that weren't drafted by this regime.

Will Levis, for all the memes that have been made of him, has actually flashed some real potential, along with some completely boneheaded plays that have outweighed some of these flashes. With a surgery on his shoulder, a year off to heal and get mentally right, Levis presents a real opportunity to get a QB on a cheap rookie contract and fairly low draft capital. This allows Fontenot to get a QB option for cheap to compete with Cousins and Penix, potentially not being ready for camp with another season ending knee injury and it allows Borgonzi to add to the stock pile of picks that he is looking for to rebuild this Titans team.
